Banks and Burr have been supplying fishing tackle for nearly 50 years. Indeed in 2012 we reach the milestone of 50 full years of trading. Started in a shed by Reg Banks to supply bait to local anglers he was soon joined by his son in law Dave Burr. This progressed to a small shop in Claremont road and Banks & Burr was born. The business recieved a boost in 1965 when Dave Burr won the All England national in the King Sedgemore drain with a record weight of 76lb 9oz. This appeared in the Guiness book of records for 20 years. The following year he captained the England team on the river Thurne in Norfolk. Brian Froggatt a well known fly fisherman joined the business in the 1970s and trading continued from the rather cramped premises which eventually took over the whole building. When Reg passed away Daves son Carlton Joined the business and began to develop the mail order side which allowed us to purchase next door and increase the floor size of the shop. Daves wife Rosemar…
The business was founded by Billy Clarke in 1918 in a tiny shop on Button lane in the centre of Sheffield. Billy was a keen match angler and was a member of the Sheffield Amalgamated anglers society which, In 1934 went on to win the prestigious all England champions Daily mirror cup. Billy died in 1937 and his daughters took over the business to run it through the war years. His son Billy then took charge of the business in May 1946 when he returned from the army having served right through the second world war.
The shop was gradually built up from an empty shell by Billy, going from strength to strength and continuing to grow even though at the time there were over 200 shops selling tackle in Sheffield at that time! The shops popularity was helped by the fact that Billy was a very well respected match angler in the Sheffield area, being a member of the Sheffield Amalgamated team which won the English championships in 1953. He was also a long standing member of the Sh…
Bristol Angling Centre first opened in 1982 where the present owner Paul Dicks took over a lease on a small shop.
Since then the business has steadily grown (in to one of Europes largest fishing tackle and equipment shops!). In 1984 Paul bought the shop next door and knocked the two into one giving a sales area of 2000 square feet. In 1985 HTV gave Paul the Young Business Man of the Year Award for his achievements.
Three years later he built a large two storey extension on the back of the shop. In 1987 he opened an upstairs showroom giving a total sales area of 6000 square feet.
Angling is a minefield for people new to the sport. Where can I go? What licence do I need? What rod do I need? What fishing - carp, pike, etc. Our staff are experienced anglers and can offer good advice regarding all these questions.
We also run angling classes to help our customers catch more fish throughout the year. We have a number of celebrity anglers, such as John W…
Fishing tackle shop focused on lure fishing. Offering vast range of lures, jig heads, leaders, clothing, reel, rods, spoons, spinners. Part of our shop is BAIT OUTLET which offers ground baits, boilies, pellets in great prices.
The Art of Fishing began in August 2010 as a tiny little tackle shop in the north Cornish village of St Merryn.
Owned and run by just the two of us (Ben Field and Jo Macphail), we always wanted to make the business a little bit different from the norm. As a result, we steered away from running what would have been a traditional tackle shop and instead preferred to look further afield for our inspiration - mainly to Japan where their enthusiasm for fishing and their striving to manufacture the finest quality tackle presented us with a (in our opinion) more interesting proposition.
Based now in Wadebridge, we run a smart shop supplying mostly bass fishing equipment to the local lure fishing community. We were however, also central in making LRF (Light Rock Fishing) what it is today and we specialise a lot in this area also.
If you are ever in Cornwall - whether at home or on your travels - please stop by the shop to say "hello". There'…
